When a customer pulls up to a McDonald’s drive thru and looks at the menu, they don’t see the rib sandwich, but rather the “McRib sandwich,” and the “McChicken.” In fact, even the commercials make a lasting impression. Has you kid ever told you that they are thinking Arby’s?
McDonalds has embedded in their marketing a new way of language, and it has worked. Apple has done this same thing with the, I phone, and I Pod, I Mac, and every other thing in that company that starts with “I.”
An Absolute Advertising Idea
Absolute Vodka integrated the word, “absolute” all over their website with links such as: Absolute reality, Absolute contact, and Absolute wonders. The campaign has now run for two decades. They made a simple word become the bases of their advertising idea.
There Is A Reason We Use Nicknames
I remember in my undergrad my best friend and I had our eye on five girls. And I can tell you, I hardly can remember one of their names, but I distinctly remember all of their nicknames. Gorgeous, Pokadots, Cute nose, Magnolia, and Legs. It was corny and stupid, I realize that now of course, but we had fun with those nicknames, and they have stuck in my mind for years. Wouldn\'t you love it if your business did that to people?
As I go to local Sandwich restaurants, I always look at the menu, and see what they call there sandwiches. Let me tell you, when I go to one of these places, I always get the “turkey bacon avocado.” If it is awesome, I am supposed to tell my friends that I got this awesome sandwich named, “The turkey bacon avocado.”
Boring!
Give it some razz, some fun, and give it a cool name. Recently I just went to a local sandwich place and saw that a typical turkey bacon avocado was named the “ménage a trois.” I am pretty sure no one is going to forget that sandwich. In fact, I ate two of them.
The Sky Is The Limit
Create a new language, think of type, do whatever you can when you are trying to think of a new advertisement idea. People will notice that you are innovative, and that you have new ideas.
I can assure you that if you own a restaurant, and give your food some cool names, you are going to do much better than the restaurant down the road. People like something new and they are glad to share that new, cool thing with their friends, too.
These are simple ideas, but can help any local business grow, and gain recognition.
