Reading Quran with Tajweed is obligatory upon every Muslim. Reading the Quran is becoming very popular, thanks to the ‘War on Terror’ initiated by the enemies of Islam a decade ago in order to confiscate Muslim natural resources. But the Quran is not just an ordinary book. The Quran is a divine revelation which was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him, more than 1400 years ago in Arabia during a period of twenty-three years. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him, was blessed with prophethood at the age of forty years, 610 CE, when the Quran began to be revealed to him, and continued to be revealed until just before the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him passed away. The word Quran literally means ‘the one which is read: The Book. The Quran is the Speech of Allaah in the Arabic language and, therefore must be read and understood correctly. The understanding of Quran comes with time and, of course, with divine acceptance, i.e., if Allaah considers a person worthy of being given the knowledge. This happens if the person is honest with himself and really seeks to gain knowledge and his, or her, purpose is not mere to make fun of the Quran or Islam and to find errors in it. Indeed, it has happened many a time that intelligent and good non-Muslim people began reading the Quran with a negative agenda and ended up embracing Islam when they discovered this modern Deen. Either way, one must read the Quran with Tajweed. The word Tajweed means the correct pronunciation of Quranic Arabic. The Quran is full of knowledge from cover to cover which is beneficial, individually and collectively, to every human being on earth. Being the Speech of Allaah, as we have stated earlier, it is essential that one reads the Quran with the correct Tajweed so that there is no confusion of the meaning and implication of the words. There are millions of people all over the world who read the Quran every day, including those who have memorized the entire Quran, yet it must be read with the correct Tajweed regardless. Although people living in Muslims countries are at an advantage when they want to learn to read the Quran, or want to have their children taught how to read the Quran, as there are numerous masajid (plural of mosques; mosque = masjid) and almost every masjid usually has tutors which teach children and adults how to read the Quran with Tajweed. But Muslims living in foreign, non-Muslim countries are sometimes at a disadvantage as there are not as many masajid in European, American, and other non-Muslim countries. More over life is very busy in developed countries and unless they are very motivated, people find it difficult to spare time for things they might not consider essential at first thought. Yet, modern technology has overcome this difficulty too. One can now very easily learn to read the Quran with Tajweed online if one has a computer system, an internet connection, a pair of headphones, and a microphone. The VoIP software used for internet communications is easily available on the internet free of cost. So, just turn on your computer, log on to the internet, and begin your online Quran lessons today.
