Shock absorbers are an important component of a vehicle that is in the suspension system, which is useful to dampen oscillations of the spring force. Shock absorbers serve to slow down and reduce the magnitude of the vibration motion by changing the kinetic energy of suspension movement into heat energy can be dissipated through the hydraulic fluid.
Shock absorbers on the car has a component on the upper part is connected to the piston and paired with the vehicle frame. The bottom, attached to the cylinder bottom that is paired with the axle. Fluid viscous damping force causes that depend on the relative speed of both ends of the unit. This helps to control the shocks on the wheels.
Construction consists of the shock absorber pistons, piston rods and tubes. Kmponen piston is in the tube shock absorber which moves up and down at the moment of shock absorber work. While the tube is the place of the oil shock absorber and also space for the piston moves up and down. And the last is the piston rod is a rod that connects the piston with the top tube (outer tube) of the shock absorber.
Shock absorbers work in two cycles ie cycles of compression and extension cycles.
Compression cycle (emphasis)
When the shock absorber is pressed because the force of the spring suspension oscillations, the movement that occurs is experiencing shortening the size of the shock absorber. Compression cycle occurs when the piston moves downward, the hydraulic fluid pressure in the chamber below the piston. And shock absorber oil under the piston will rise above the piston chamber through the holes that exist on the piston. While a small hole (orifice) on the piston closes the valve is closed because the channel orifice. Valve closure is due to the laying of the valve in the form of membranes (thin plate) attached below the piston, so that when the oil shock absorber attempted to ascend to the top then the valve membrane will be driven by the shock absorber and akilbatnya close the channel orifice. So the shock absorber oil will go up through a large hole in the piston, while the oil can not exit through the channels oriface on the piston. By this time do not shock absorber damping force to the oscillation of the spring suspension, because the oil can go up to the chamber above the piston with great ease.
Cycle extension (lengthening)
At the time of extending the piston in the tube will stir from the bottom up. This piston movement makes up the oil shock absorber which has been above became depressed. Oil shock absorber will be looking for a way out so as not depressed by the piston continues. So this oil will push the valve in oriface channel to open and oil will come out or fall down through the channels oriface. At this time the valve in a large hole in the piston will be closed because the location of this valve above the piston. This shock absorber oil will hit the valve hole, the piston down and mengaakibat valve is closed. But where the inlet valve opens oriface because it is under the piston, so that when the oil shock hit down this valve opens. At current oil shock absorber can only go down through a small orifice line. Because the channel is small, then the oil shock absorber will not be able to quickly drops down aka obstructed. At this moment of shock absorber damping force to the suspension spring oscillation.
A typical car or light truck will have more resistance during the extension cycle than the compression cycle. All modern shock absorbers are velocity-sensitive - the faster the suspension moves, the more resistance the shock absorber provides. This allows the shock to adjust to road conditions and to control all unwanted movements that can occur in a moving vehicle.
The workings of the shock absorber mentioned above is the type of Bilstein Shocks, Bilstein Dampers singles action, while for the shock absorber of type double action does not use a large tract on the piston, both just a channel orifice only. So when compression, shock absorber will perform force oscillation damping of the suspension spring. |
